Mission and Work

Mission

JAYS CARE FOUNDATION is working to ensure that children and youth in need have the opportunities to make positive choices in life through programs that provide education, physical activity and life-skill development.

Rookie League

$1.1m annual program spend • Rookie league is jays cares signature baseball for development program. The program is specially designed to use the power of baseball and the appeal of the Toronto Blue Jays to foster lasting social change across canada and create leaders beyond the ballpark. Rookie league has two distinct outcomes: 1) to enhance the life-skills and physical health of marginalized children; and, 2) to enhance positive self-identity and the employment skills of marginalized youth. In 2017, rookie league is celebrating its 29th season, and will continue to shrink the opportunity gap for more than 8,000 children and youth in communities from coast to coast.

Field of Dreams

$893k annual program spend • Field of dreams is jays cares granting program for capital spaces/infrastructure. More than 25% of canadian parents say that inconvenient locations for sport facilities prevent their children from getting involved in sport and only 53% say their children (aged 5 to 17) participate in sport and recreation programs at school. To overcome these challenges, the field of dreams grants program provides funding to design, refurbish, and build safe spaces for children and youth to play baseball, develop life skills and learn from positive role models. Jays care has invested over $11 million in safe spaces for children and youth all across canada.

Grand Slam Grants

$321k annual program spend • To help children and youth get the best start in life, JAYS CARE FOUNDATION supports charity and community groups that offer programs focused on physical activity, life skill and educational development, and healthy living. In 2014, eleven charitable and not-for-profit organizations in Ontario were granted funding to support their programs.
