The Reason Why

The challenge

Homelessness is pervasive in San Fransisco, especially compared to other cities. Every night, about 7,500 people are experiencing homelessness in San Francisco: families, youth and people with jobs.

Our Approach

The solution

We're investing in three connected strategies to help people escape homelessness in San Francisco. First, helping people meet basic needs and keep jobs. Second, finding shelter and housing quickly. Third, supporting people as they get back on their feet and rebuild their lives.

Our Fund + You

The fund: Seeking Shelter

We're excited to introduce you to Seeking Shelter, a fund containing 5 nonprofits. Each nonprofit has been handpicked by us.

Our strategy

The implementation

Strategy 1

Meet basic needs

Introduction

By allowing people to meet basic hygiene needs they are able feel a sense of dignity and often keep their job.

Current milestone

By December 31st, we aim to provide hygiene kits with basic essentials - like toothbrushes, soap, and deodorant - to 200 people.

Progress: 356/200

Strategy 2

Find shelter

Introduction

Shelter allows people to find a sense of home and security, and helps people start to rebuild their life.

Current milestone

By December 31st, we want to provide warm, nutritious meals for 60 families.

Progress: 106/60

Strategy 3

Rebuilding lives

Introduction

Provide services and support to help people learn new skills, find permanent jobs, and secure housing.

Current milestone

By December 31st, we aim to provide 30 people with 1-on-1 counseling sessions, including a new outfit, groceries, and a hot meal.

Progress: 53/30
